Most Frequently Asked Questions about Lab-Grown Diamonds

What does it mean that the diamonds are lab-grown?

Let’s first clarify what it means that our Diamond Collection is made with ethical lab-grown diamonds. Diamonds referred to as 'lab-grown' are typically created in a controlled environment where a piece of carbon is exposed to high heat and pressure, causing the carbon atoms to bond in perfect lattice structures at the atomic level.

Over a few weeks, the carbon is transformed into the crystal we know as diamonds. Essentially, this process mirrors what happens deep within the Earth, where natural diamonds are formed over millions of years.

What is the difference between mined and lab-grown diamonds?

There is no visual difference between mined and lab-grown diamonds, as the chemical structure of the diamond is the same. The only difference is that mined diamonds are formed in the Earth's interior over millions of years, whereas lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled laboratories using entirely similar principles.

What are the benefits of choosing lab-grown diamonds?

Overall, there are three key benefits of choosing lab-grown diamonds that make our Diamond Collection the perfect choice for you.

Same Creation Process and Quality

With advanced technologies, you get a diamond that has the same creation process and quality as mined diamonds. ♡

Honest and Fair Prices

Lab-grown diamonds are created and sold in a more transparent market, and the process, which traditionally takes hundreds of years, is significantly shortened. Lab-grown diamonds guarantee exceptional quality at reasonable prices.

An Ethical Choice for the Future

By choosing our lab-grown diamonds, you are making an ethical choice. We aim to protect the Earth's resources and have consciously chosen lab-grown diamonds to avoid promoting mining and its associated challenges.

We are aware that not all lab-grown diamonds are produced the same way, and the diamond creation process requires energy. Our diamonds are certified 'net-zero emission' diamonds*, meaning they do not contribute to increased CO2 in our atmosphere. The diamonds are created using, among other things, solar energy, and all the gold in our Diamond Collection is certified 100% recycled. This way, we can proudly offer exclusive, high-quality jewelry with consideration for our planet's future.

Your Guide to Beautiful Brilliance: Understanding the 4 C's of Diamonds

Choosing a diamond jewelry involves many considerations, and we will do our best to guide you towards the perfect diamond.

The 4 C's describe the traditional factors you need to keep in mind when finding the most dazzling diamond of the highest craftsmanship.

In English, the respective C's stand for Cut, Carat, Clarity, and Color. Let’s dive into each C so that you are well-prepared when selecting the diamond that is right for you.

Cut

Cut describes how the diamond is shaped and faceted. This is crucial for how light is reflected in the diamond’s facets, giving it that captivating and sparkling look.

Generally, "cut" is often confused with the diamond's shape, which also has significant aesthetic importance. We love diamonds in all imaginable shapes and already offer a wide selection for you to be inspired by here.

The cut of the diamond refers to the quality of its craftsmanship. To achieve the most beautiful sparkle, it is essential that the proportions are correct on all sides of the diamond. From the side, the cut should neither be too high nor too low, as this affects the light reflection in the diamond.

Our lab-grown diamonds are cut to the highest standard, Excellent. This means you can expect a diamond with the perfect proportions to create the best light reflection.

Carat

Carat indicates the weight and thus the size of diamonds. Carat is a unit of measurement used to determine the weight of a diamond. One carat equals 200 milligrams. The larger the diamond, the higher its carat weight.

In brilliant cut, 1 carat corresponds to a stone width of 6.4 mm, and a 0.5 carat stone is 5.0 mm in width. If a piece of jewelry is adorned with multiple diamonds, the total carat weight will be listed, along with the carat weight of the center stone, if applicable.

At Sisi Copenhagen, you can dream big. We can provide diamonds of up to 50 carats, but at a much more affordable price than mined diamonds of the same carat weight. If you want to learn more about carat and what we can offer, please fill out the contact form at the bottom of the page.

Clarity

Clarity describes a diamond’s clarity and is defined by the number and size of inclusions within the diamond. Inclusions can be dark spots, cracks, or carbon particles that interfere with the light's refraction in the diamond's facets, thus significantly affecting the diamond's beauty and value. The scale that describes inclusions in a diamond is noted with the English abbreviations. Flawless (FL) is the best, while Included (I) is the lowest.

Our diamonds have a clarity rating between VVS (Very, Very Slightly Included) and VS (Very Slightly Included). This means that our diamonds are free from visible inclusions—though not completely 'Flawless' FL. It requires a magnifying glass to see the minute inclusions that may be present. Therefore, in practice, it has no effect on the sparkling clarity of our diamonds.

Color

Color describes a diamond’s color, which is generally desired to be as white/clear as possible. The scale used to categorize color ranges today from D to Z.

Many still use the old color designations when referring to diamonds. For example, the term 'River' is used for diamonds in the E-F category, while 'Top Wesselton' corresponds to G and 'Wesselton' corresponds to H. Diamonds between D and H are considered white and nearly colorless, and it is nearly impossible to distinguish the difference between them even when viewed side by side.

The diamonds in our Diamond Collection achieve a color grade of G, placing them at the high end of the scale. The advantage of lab-grown diamonds is that the creation process allows for the addition of minerals that produce rare, beautiful colors.
