Wedding Band Engraving: Ideas, Inspiration & Fonts

Wedding bands are a symbol of your love, and you’ll wear them every day for the rest of your lives. That’s why many couples choose to make their wedding bands even more personal with an engraving – a name, a date, or a few words that hold a special meaning only the two of you share.
In this guide, we’ll explore why engraving has become so popular, what you can have engraved, and how to choose a font that suits you and your wedding bands.

Why Choose Engraving for Your Wedding Bands?

What makes your wedding bands truly yours is often the detail that no one else can see. An engraving is usually placed on the inside of the band, close to the skin, making it a personal detail that you carry with you without being visible to anyone but the two of you.

For many couples, engraving is a way to preserve something meaningful from their wedding day or relationship – a date, a name, or a word that holds special meaning between you. Others choose an engraving simply because it gives the band an even more personal touch.

Engraving Options

When choosing an engraving for your wedding bands, there are many options. You can, for example, have names, initials, dates, or a short phrase engraved. You can also add a symbol, such as a heart or infinity symbol, either on its own or as part of the engraving.

The engraving is placed on the inside of the band, so it does not change the appearance of the ring from the outside. This means you can first choose your wedding bands based on their design, shape, and material, and then find the engraving that feels right for you.

The width of the band does, however, affect how much text can fit and which fonts are best suited. On a narrow band, a shorter text and a simple font will often be the best choice.

Our Fonts

At Sisi Copenhagen, we offer four different fonts for engraving. A serif font gives the engraving an elegant and timeless look. Its fine details and traditional shapes make it a great choice if you want a classic and sophisticated engraving.

A simple, modern font gives the engraving a clean and minimalist look. It is easy to read and well suited to those who prefer a subtle and contemporary engraving.

A font with a more distinctive and nostalgic look, inspired by classic typewriters, gives the engraving personality and a slightly different feel.

A handwritten or cursive font gives the engraving a softer and more personal look. It resembles something one of you could have written by hand and is therefore often considered the most romantic option.

As a general rule, we recommend choosing a simple and minimalist font, especially if the band is 2 mm wide or narrower. This ensures that the engraving remains clear and easy to read.

What Should You Engrave in Your Wedding Bands?

There is no one right answer when it comes to what to engrave in your wedding bands – the right choice is whatever holds meaning for you. However, some choices are more common because they reflect something many couples can relate to.

Many couples choose their names or initials for a classic and timeless look, while others prefer a meaningful date. This could be your wedding date, the day you met, or another date that marks an important moment in your story.

You can also choose a single word or a short phrase, such as “always,” “together,” or “forever us.” A nickname, an inside joke, or a phrase that only the two of you understand can make the engraving even more personal. It doesn’t have to be something others can read and understand – the most important thing is that it means something to you.

FAQ: Wedding Bands

Do Wedding Bands Have to Match?

No, wedding bands don’t have to match. For some couples, it’s important that the bands have a clear shared look, while others prefer to choose bands that suit their individual styles. The bands can therefore be the same or differ in terms of profile, width, finish, and details, while still feeling like a matching pair.

Most importantly, each wedding band should feel right for the person wearing it.

Should Our Wedding Bands Have the Same Engraving?

There’s no rule that your wedding bands have to match in text or font. Some couples intentionally choose the same engraving using the same text and font. Others prefer each band to reflect the person wearing it, with different text and perhaps a different font, while still sharing the same meaning behind the engraving.

Can I Engrave a Symbol Instead of Text?

Yes. In addition to text, you can choose symbols such as a heart or infinity symbol, either on their own or combined with your text.

When Should We Choose Our Engraving?

We offer one complimentary engraving on all of our wedding bands – either when you place your order or at a later date.

Classic Wedding Bands Without Diamonds
For these, we recommend choosing the engraving when you place your order. This is the easiest and fastest solution, and any future size adjustments can be made without affecting the existing engraving.

Wedding Bands with Diamonds
If you’re unsure about the size or design, we recommend waiting to have the ring engraved. If the ring needs to be resized later, the engraving will generally need to be redone, and an engraved diamond ring cannot be returned or exchanged.
